At Les Nomades de Marrakech, our philosophy begins with attention. We take time to examine each rug individually, considering its composition, materials, craftsmanship, and the details that give it character.
Vintage and contemporary pieces invite different judgments. An older rug may distinguish itself through a rare pattern or an unexpected combination of colors. A newly produced piece must bring its design, materials, and execution together with care. Across our collections, we value rugs that reward a closer look and offer something distinctive to the person who chooses them.
Over the years, this approach has shaped what we like to think of as a library of rugs. Rather than building our collection around a small number of designs reproduced in large quantities, we have chosen to cultivate variety. Today, over 28,000 rugs across our vintage, traditional, modern, and contemporary collections form an extensive archive of compositions, colors, textures, techniques, and dimensions. Many are unique pieces; others belong to small and evolving productions rather than standardized repetition.
In our Marrakech showroom, this library exists physically. Rugs are carefully organized by style and dimension, allowing us to move through the collection, compare pieces, and continually rediscover what it contains. Each room, stack, and collection becomes part of a larger picture of Moroccan weaving, from older pieces gathered over decades to the contemporary rugs we develop today.
Our online collection is an extension of that same idea: bringing this living library beyond the walls of our Marrakech showroom and making more of it accessible wherever you are. As the collection continues to be documented, photographed, and brought online, the experience remains rooted in discovery—the possibility of looking through many different pieces until one feels distinctly yours.

Our modern and contemporary Moroccan rugs draw inspiration from the depth and variety of Morocco’s weaving traditions. An irregular rhythm, a bold contrast, or the relationship between intricate patterns and open space can become a starting point for creative exploration.
We approach this heritage as a source of continuing possibilities. A composition can take on a different presence through a change in scale. A new palette can reveal another aspect of a familiar pattern. Texture itself can become the central expression of a design. Some of our contemporary pieces make their influences immediately visible; others explore them more subtly.
Working with interior designers, architects, and private clients introduces further perspectives. Our judgment also leaves room for the exceptional. An unusual palette or a remarkable composition can make a rug worth collecting even when it shows considerable wear. Condition remains part of the assessment, but its importance is weighed alongside rarity and artistic character.
We are especially interested in pieces that invite questions: a familiar weaving structure paired with unexpected motifs, or characteristics associated with more than one region. These combinations encourage closer study and remind us of the variety within Moroccan textile traditions.
The collection leaves room for both recognizable styles and pieces that are difficult to categorize. That openness is essential to the pleasure of discovering vintage rugs.
Contemporary Rugs: Quality in Every Decision
In a newly produced rug, excellence depends on how well the elements work together. We consider the quality of the wool and other materials, the execution of the weave, the colors, and the finishing. A compelling design needs equally considered workmanship to reach its full potential.
Our development process involves ongoing research into wool qualities, dyes, and washing methods. These choices influence how a rug feels, how its colors appear, and how the finished surface expresses the design. We examine the result as a whole, while paying attention to details such as edges and the consistency of the finish.
Dimensions deserve the same consideration. A rug’s proportions affect both its composition and its relationship with the furniture and space around it. We create and select sizes with contemporary homes in mind, while custom projects allow us to respond to particular requirements.
These standards guide what we are willing to offer. An attractive pattern alone is not enough when the material or finishing falls short.
Design with Integrity
Integrity means being thoughtful about the work we develop and accurate about the pieces we present.
With vintage rugs, experience allows us to recognize many characteristics, but it does not give us access to every maker’s story. A combination of regional influences may suggest an exchange of ideas or techniques; it cannot, on its own, establish a weaver’s personal history. We distinguish what we can observe from what we can reasonably interpret, acknowledging when an origin or meaning remains uncertain.
The same clarity matters across our collections. We aim to describe each rug faithfully, supported by photography that helps customers understand its appearance, proportions, and details. For older pieces, an honest account of condition is part of that responsibility.
Our role is to give people the information and attention they need to choose with confidence. Representing a rug carefully respects both the work that went into it and the person who will bring it home.
